A Few Days Away

My official summer holidays are a few days away... So close!

I have my Math 11 final this morning. AH. Once it's done, I never have to do math again... YAY! I also have a Biology test this morning, with my final on Wednesday/Thursday. Dance has officially finished, we have our final performance of the season on Wednesday night. I am so glad everything is wrapping up. I don't think I've had a "do nothing, no stress" break in over a year... So I'm really looking forward to a few weeks of reading, gardening and just plain doing nothing! I've also decided to get my hair cut. If you've known me for a long time, when I say that, it means an inch or two off... a trim. Well, this time it doesn't. I'm actually getting it cut! I'm thinking chin-length. It's kind of scary, I haven't had my hair that short since I was 5 or 6, but it's exciting as well! :)

I'll be able to teach 3 weeks of dance summer camps in August. I'm really excited for that! I also have the opportunity to get a few shifts at the Blenz coffee in town :)
Sofi has gotten a casual/part-time job at IGA, she's excited about that.
Lucy is helping out lots and playing with the neighbours a lot. We never had neighbours our own age, or neighbours in general, so this is a new thing. She loves it, the rest of us still dream of the privacy of the country. :)

Yeah, I just had to put these in. A certain 6-year-old got her hands on Sofi's math book... and decided to fill out some pages. Really annoying, but really cute :)

Well, I'm off to get a tad more studying in... I find that the early early morning is a great time to do so! I was studying before 6 this morning... :D

Roses

As many of you know I'm kind of a nut for flowers... ok, a big nut for flowers. Here in Kelowna all the roses are now blooming, we have quite a few bushes along the front of our house. Back home, we never got enough sunlight and warmth for proper roses, but now we do! We have some gorgeous ones... I was outside last night taking pictures of them so I though I would put some on here :)

You can probably tell that I like the pink ones the most... they worked the best with the light...

Oh! There are raindrops (er... sprinkler drops) on the roses right now....
*grabs camera and runs out door*

Random Ramblings of Someone Waiting for Dinner...

It's June. It's summer. (Feel free to dispute that, but we are Russian and Summer is June 1st)

I'm currently rather hyper... I had a chocolate desserty thing this morning... at 11AM.... it was really really good.... but a bad idea... I've been hyper ever since...

It didn't help that I was listening to Beethoven's Wig.... For those who don't know what it is, it's a group of people who put lyrics to famous classical pieces... Hilarious lyrics.

If you know Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata you might like this one...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUXM137WneI

If you are familiar with Carmen you might like this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4Whe96_aC4

Yeah, you get the picture...

Today is actually four different holidays/celebrations!

#1 - Swedish National Day - Self Explanatory... I was tempted to do something Swedish... but I didn't have any ideas. So I found some Swedish traditional folk songs and listened to those... that's what I'm listening to now!

#2 - Yo-yo Day - Donald F. Duncan, Sr. invented the yo-yo and it's his birthday today. I don't have a yo-yo... or maybe I do somewhere... but I'm not about to go looking for it...

#3 - Gardening Exercise Day - Gardening is apparently exercise... well, it can be. CELEBRATE THAT EXERCISE!!!!! (Yes... I'm still hyper...Thanks Taria...You made me more hyper xD)

#4 - International Doughnut Day - This day originated during World War One as the "Lassies" of the Salvation Army were sent to the front lines in Europe to cook meals for the soldiers. A favourite treat were doughnuts, fried in oil in the soldier's helmets. Why today is picked for Doughnut Day -- I have no clue... And funnily enough... Papa came home today with leftover doughnuts from work. So how perfect was that!?!?!

In other news, my summer is slowly starting to fill up... I get to teach a few summer dance camps... In September I will possibly get to take over all the lower level classes at the dance school... Looking forward to that!

Hum hum hum... I watched my last Math lesson today! Yay! Now I only have an assignment, a test and my Final! I can't wait to be done with that... My only other courses to finish are English, BIO, and PE. Hehehe... that reminds me I have to do another project for PE...

Yeah, this is really random... I'm basically wasting time while waiting for supper...

Oh! It's Pushkin's Birthday today! He's a Russian poet for those who don't know... I think I have a picture of him somewhere....

There he is... poor guy is sitting out in the cold...
That's a picture from when Papa and I went to Russia in 2011... There was a lot of snow that year...

But anyway, Pushkin wrote the book Eugene Onegin... it was made into a ballet and an opera... the music is written by Tchaikovsky. I saw the opera in 2011 in Russia... it was good... but that's another story for another time...

Pushkin is also a poet... Here's a sample

“The wondrous moment of our meeting...
Still I remember you appear
Before me like a vision fleeting,
A beauty's angel pure and clear.

In hopeless ennui surrounding
The worldly bustle, to my ear
For long your tender voice kept sounding,
For long in dreams came features dear.

Time passed. Unruly storms confounded
Old dreams, and I from year to year
Forgot how tender you had sounded,
Your heavenly features once so dear.

My backwoods days dragged slow and quiet --
Dull fence around, dark vault above --
Devoid of God and uninspired,
Devoid of tears, of fire, of love.

Sleep from my soul began retreating,
And here you once again appear
Before me like a vision fleeting,
A beauty's angel pure and clear.

In ecstasy my heart is beating,
Old joys for it anew revive;
Inspired and God-filled, it is greeting
The fire, and tears, and love alive.”
― Alexander Pushkin

So yeah... that's my post for now... I hear plates being set on the table and the timer ringing... signalling that I must go upstairs and help... You are probably tired of my random rambling anyway... Hehehe Wooton's Random Ramblings... I won't go there...

Farewell, my readers!!!!

And our Finale -- the Rock Ballet!

Ok, yeah I know... that wasn't a few pictures... But still. Now you can at least see a little of what our show was like!

The rest of May went by quickly... nothing really worth writing about...

I shall write more often now that it's summer!
