BC CHEC 2014

This past weekend was pretty awesome. Why? Well, mainly because of the 2014 BC CHEC. If you aren't a homeschooler, it's pretty likely that you don't know what it is... Unless you attend HCS of course. But to explain, BC CHEC stands for British Columbia Christian Home Educators Convention. Now you see why we call it CHEC.

Anyway, the convention is pretty much like any other convention -- speakers, vendors etc. But this one is just a little bit better, for a few reasons.

  1. It's a homeschool convention -- most moms will be coming home with books for next year and ideas for courses which is always really exciting.
  2. Basically all the teachers associated with the school are there so I got to meet quite a few of my teachers. That was awesome!!
  3. A lot of my friends through the school were there - we all got to meet in real life!

Most of the youth whose parents were attending the convention go to the Youth Camp at Maple Springs Bible Camp. I had mixed feelings about that. I was going to volunteer as a leader, but I had a scheduling conflict so I attended for one day. It was... an experience. It was a great idea, a solid start to something potentially spectacular for the kids attending. I'd have to say that my experience was less than spectacular. The camp wasn't well organized and the leaders didn't have much control over the kids -- especially the younger ones. (Grade 6+) Quite a few times the maturity level was way down there...

But I do have to say that the best part was getting to meet and hang out with all my friends. It was so awesome to put a face to the name and have real conversations.

Well, that's all for now! This coming weekend is the big dance show (Details upon request), I'll probably have a post on that!

It Rained...

Well my dear readers. Today it actually rained. And then it stopped. I'm writing this mostly to my friends back home on Vancouver Island... just to say that it does rain here... but not NEARLY as much as it does there...

But you see, it's not a downpour rain that causes us all to stay inside. Either that or bundle up in raincoats and rush to protect the animal feed and firewood from getting wet. Oh and I forgot the need to dig trenches in the driveway to prevent the water from running down hill onto the highway...

So yeah, here in Kelowna, it's a nice drizzle. Light enough to still be enjoyable, yet heavy enough to keep the plants happy.

And by the way... our guest room is ready for guests now...

Easter Update

Well, Happy Easter to everyone!
We have officially moved into our new house. We have most of the rooms set up as they will be for the next little while, with a really really long list of tasks to do to make the house more "us." We are in the process of finding mattresses, a dining table and chairs, and random little things that we sold or packed away (we can't remember). It's been a hard week, I haven't had the energy to do anything except unpack.
Mom and dad just walked through the door with a dining room table! Hooray! We can have meals at a table that isn't built for two now!!!!

Well, I'm off to enjoy the beautiful sunshine... Have a wonderful weekend!

Little Things but Mainly, Art

Well, I'm back. I've recently been inspired by some to keep blogging about anything and everything. I hear that people are still interested in reading it, and even if you aren't, I'll keep it up for future personal records. Though it may sometimes turn into a series of ramblings...

I've recently been thinking a lot about art. Art is such a simple word for the vast styles of expression that can be fit into the category. A-R-T. Three letters that hold basically everything! Every smidge of creativity, talent and imagination all fall under those three letters. We are all artists and creators in some way or another. Some people are gifted in the art of what people call 'art' but is really drawing and painting. Others are gifted in the art of hand crafts or building or even cooking, others in music, dance, acting, and the other "Fine arts." And yet, those who are gifted with words are artists as well. The great works of poetry and literature that we all know and love are forms of art as well! People are gifted with kindness and compassion as well. Those people are the ones who always make your day better, no matter what they do! Have you ever thought that this Earth is a piece of art?! Well isn't it? Every kind of art is an expression of the artist and an inspiration to the 'art-viewer.' I'm personally most inspired by music and dance. What kind of art are you inspired by? A beautiful quilt? A gorgeous symphony? A stunning painting? or a spectacular meal?

Well, I must run! But truly, I want to hear what inspires you!
